Environmental Sustainability

CEC recognizes that innovation is the key to sustainable corporate development. We continuously invest in research and development to maintain industry competitiveness through technological innovation, while incorporating ESG principles to drive sustainable product transformation. In product development and production processes, CEC adopts a Product Life Cycle (PLC) approach—starting from product design to end-of-life disposal—striving to meet fundamental customer requirements such as functionality, quality, and durability, while also upholding environmentally friendly principles.

We adhere to the KISS (Keep It Simple, Stupid) principle by optimizing mechanical structures at the design stage, reducing unnecessary components and overly complex designs. This approach not only enhances product performance and durability but also minimizes material and energy consumption during manufacturing. Additionally, we actively adopt high-performance materials and low-environmental-impact manufacturing technologies to ensure our products are both eco-friendly and competitive. This approach enables innovation to not only drive CEC’s growth but also create greater value for the environment and society.

Green Product Design and Manufacturing Process

CEC actively promotes innovative research and development, integrating ESG principles to optimize product design and enhance added value. The keyboard module and input devices reduce manufacturing complexity through modular design, decreasing the amount of plastic used and the number of components. They utilize recycled metals and PCR plastics to lower carbon emissions. The continuous implementation of low-power backlighting technology enhances energy efficiency. Input devices are also being developed with energy saving wireless technology to extend battery life. The Imaging Input Device Division and the Lens Module Division employ AI image processing technology to improve image quality and provide diverse services. They also optimize image sensing and processing technologies to reduce high-power operational demands, while emphasizing lightweight design to minimize material usage and enhance transportation efficiency. Additionally, halogen-free materials and environmentally friendly coatings are introduced to reduce environmental impact.

Production Line Highlight Case Study - AI Data Analysis

In response to the maturity of production line automation and in alignment with the product's requirements for yield rate and precision in machine operation, the production line has implemented a cloud-based and AI data analysis platform. By integrating data visualization with statistical analysis, the system supports a multi-window mode for real-time monitoring of production line status, yield, and efficiency changes.

The AI decision-making engine automatically analyzes production data, providing intelligent scheduling and alert notifications, which assist managers in quickly identifying issues and optimizing processes. The integration of IoT devices with real-time video monitoring enhances management accuracy and includes features for historical data inquiry and comparison. It supports daily and weekly reports, assisting plant supervisors in continuously improving production efficiency.

Product Highlight Case Study- Smart Camera

In 2024, Chicony will collaborate with clients to jointly develop a new type of network camera, incorporating the concept of sustainable products. Efforts will be made to achieve a balance between environmental protection and performance through aspects such as recyclability, enhanced durability, and energy-efficient design, thereby promoting green innovation.

  1. The certification recycling rate can reach 87%, and the regeneration rate can reach 90%.
  2. The circular body and metal casing reduce wear and extend the service life.
  3. AI Smart Hibernate Mode, Efficient Energy-Saving Design.

Product Highlight Case Study - Keyboard Module

In 2024, the CEC Keyboard Module R&D Team is committed to environmental protection and innovation, overcoming challenges in material application by extensively utilizing recycled plastics and reclaimed metals, while ensuring quality and durability. The lightweight and integrated design not only reduces the use of raw materials but also optimizes the manufacturing process to enhance efficiency.

  1. Using environmentally friendly packaging materials that are easy to disassemble and recycle.
  2. The product line uses recycled plastics and reclaimed metals.
  3. Lightweight design reduces the use of raw materials.
  4. Integrated design reduces manufacturing processes.

Product Carbon Footprint

Since 2023, CEC has been actively promoting the concept of product carbon footprint across the company. We have launched carbon footprint inventory projects for five products, with each business unit designating at least one representative product. In 2024, all 5 projects were successfully completed, with 3 products obtaining ISO 14067 product carbon footprint verification certificates.

In 2023, we collaborated with external vendors to establish the CEC ISO 14064 Carbon Management System and the ISO 14067 Product Carbon Footprint System. The ISO 14067 Product Carbon Footprint System has been completed and will continue to be optimized and automated. In the future, it is expected to effectively reduce the complexity of calculating product carbon footprints, while continuously integrating with the company's internal systems to achieve automation and reduce manual inventory costs.

5 products have completed carbon footprint assessments, and 3 have obtained carbon footprint certification.

B
Based on the results of the carbon footprint assessments, we found that for the core products analyzed, the "raw materials" stage is the primary source of environmental impact, followed by the "manufacturing" stage. This indicates that our products are generally low-power and energy-efficient. These findings will serve as a valuable reference for our future carbon reduction planning. CEC continues to integrate sustainability concepts into product development and, in response to the assessment results, is actively enhancing the sustainability of raw materials. We are making ongoing improvements in packaging, metals, and plastics to reduce the overall carbon footprint.
